On Wednesday 4th December, 22 of our Y10 students took part in a ‘Speak Out’ communication skills workshop. Students met with Claudette their trainer for the day and began with an introduction and outline of what to expect from the day. All of our students were quite nervous and shy, but Claudette soon had them smiling and looking more relaxed. Claudette started by asking about who they thought was a good communicator and why they thought that. Students then were given tips to help them with speaking, possibly in lessons or at interviews. They looked at ‘pitch, pace, power…pause and the 5’s – stride, stand, smile, speak and stay. Students were also given a booklet to keep which contained all the elements they had looked at which would help them to mentally prepare themselves for future public speaking.
A positive event that I think all our students enjoyed and hopefully everyone took away something, which will help them in the future.Back to News
