Poet with punch performs for Pool Hayes pupils

On Friday 12th April, Pool Hayes Academy hosted the poet and professional boxer, Matt Windle. Matt captivated over 400 KS3 students with some excellent word wizardry, during his poetry with punch performances, in the library.

Since the age of 14 Matt has performed spoken word/slam poetry, his powerful poetry writing credentials speak volumes; in 2007 and 2008 he became Birmingham’s Young Poet Laureate, and in 2016 he was officially appointed Birmingham’s 2016-2018 Poet Laureate. Matt, AKA ‘Matt Man’ delivered interactive presentations to  groups of Year 7 and 8 pupils, over the course of four sessions, which gave insight into his inspiration for writing poetry, covered poetry writing techniques, and included entire audience participation. Matt got a unanimous decision from the pupils, for the ingenious, rib-tickling, rhyming poems he had composed from the use of the pupils‘ names, present at each of the gatherings.

Many thanks to the members of staff who enabled the pupils to experience the poetry event, by providing backing and support.
