National Storytelling Week was celebrated here at Pool Hayes starting week beginning 29th January with a range of activities centred around storytelling. There were a number of competitions over the course of the week; a form group literature quiz, an author anagram hunt and a personal writing competition. Various audiobooks were being read by a selection of celebrities in the foyer; from Animal Farm to Harry Potter and musical soundtracks that follow a narrative arc.
Tuesday saw the return of Storytellers on Tour bursting charismatically into classrooms to deliver a moral story. Thank you to Katie Palmer, Amy Fox, Oliver Preece and Millie Harding for all of their effort and hard work on that day.
Wednesday, 7×1 were treated to a twisted fairy tale workshop. The groups were asked for random nouns, adjectives, interjections and the like upon arrival. These were then inserted into a classic fairy tale to create various twisted versions of the original, such as Cinderella and her concrete slipper.
The drama ambassadors provided the entertainment for 8X1 on Thursday in the Lecture theatre. Hosting the Page to the Stage workshop they were tasked with taking a short version of A Christmas Carol and performing before explaining the process of taking a script and interpreting it for performance. A Q&A session followed with various discussions before 8X1 were then set to work on taking a small chunk for performance themselves.
The winners of our competitions were P4 for the literature quiz who scored an incredible 20/20. The story writing competition was won by Louis Bennett who has won a 16gb Amazon Fire tablet. Congratulations!
