Yesterday afternoon, the academy’s Biscuits and Books Club met author Jane Elson, at the launch of this year’s Wolverhampton Children’s Book Award.
Jane hooked her audience, and kept them hooked by getting her listeners to participate in her talk about her life as an author, actress and playwright; and during a reading of an extract from her latest title, ‘Will You Catch Me?’. Jane also shared her personal story of dyslexia and how she struggled to read and write as a child; and spoke of her fascination with 15th century actress Nell Gywn; and her love of animals.
Author visits are a part of a programme of events the academy will deliver to its students to encourage reading for pleasure and improve literacy, and to allow them to meet excellent authors.
Libby – ‘I learnt so much.’
Emma – ‘It was so inspiring. I loved it.’
Mia – ‘Today was fantastic. I would like to meet more authors.’
Ryan – ‘It was awesome, would love to go another author event.’
Blake – ‘Great experience! Loved it.’
