Extra-Curricular

Pool Hayes offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities which are designed to supplement and extend the day-to-day classroom learning.

Pre-School Provision:

The school library is open for supervised study from 7.30am every morning.

After-School Provision:

There are enrichments lessons taking place in every subject area in our Enrichment Period (3.00pm-4.00pm) throughout the academic year. In addition, there are homework clubs after-school in the SEND Department (KS3 and KS4), the Library (KS3 and KS4) and the Learning Hub (KS4), as well as supervised private study in the Sixth Form until 4.30pm every night.

Saturday School:

This provision is largely for KS4 and Sixth Form students and offers a weekly slot (10.00am-1.00pm) which is designed to support exam preparation and coursework. The voluntary sessions are publicised in advance in the academy though targeted students may have their parents called to compel attendance.

Holiday School:

This provision is largely focused around Easter and May – in the run-up to exams – but additional sessions take place at other times of the year too. Again, though largely voluntary, targeted students are directed to attend.

Academic Clubs:

There are a wide range of clubs and societies taking place through the week – both at lunch-times and after school – ranging from Science Club to the Debating Society and Gaming Club to Art Club. In addition, there are multiple weekly events connected to our themed Focus Weeks including Masterchef competitions, charity fund-raising activities and careers / aspiration sessions. Equally, we offer a strong line in more character-building activities ranging from fire cadet projects, army training, mock trials and student leadership activities.

Performance Activities:

The excellent Dance, Drama and Music Department offer a range of extra-curricular activities and excursions throughout the year. The Dance Department stages weekly clubs and an annual ‘Night of the Stars’ Dance Show. The Drama Department’s weekly clubs complement a wide range of performances, ranging from show-stopping musicals to high-quality plays. Finally, the Music Department offers clubs, peripatetic lessons and termly concerts and a RockFest to encourage students to hone their skills before performing in front of enthusiastic audiences.

Sporting Activities:

The PE Department has an outstanding extra-curricular provision including clubs, teams, training sessions, competitions, as well as visits to live events. These clubs are made easier by our superb facilities which include a large sports hall, a gymnasium, a multi-gym, a sports and a dance studio, extensive outdoor facilities and a swimming pool.

Field Trips:

There are a wide range of trips both in the UK and further afield and in recent times these have included London, Bryntysilio, New York, Paris, skiing and Spain.
